THE SCALP – GIVE IT SOME ATTENTION
Hair science begins at the scalp, so it is helpful to consider a few facts:
- All new hair growth originates within the scalp. It is the starting point for every strand of your hair.
- A healthy scalp is the foundation for forming the healthiest-looking, full, smooth, strong, shiny hair possible, from within the scalp.
- The average head has about 115,000 follicles, or the cavities in the scalp from which each strand emerges to create your head of hair.
- The natural growth cycle of each strand is about 2 – 6 years, after which the follicle takes a short break, and then it begins again, growing a new strand, called a hair shaft.
- By the time a new strand of hair emerges from a follicle, it is fully formed.
- All hair that is visible on the scalp surface is fully keratinised. This means that the strand itself is made up of cells that are no longer alive.

 John Gillespie, a Scottish hair stylist and salon owner who’s been in the business for nearly 20 years, is the expert speaker for SATINIQUE™ branded products. He trained at Vidal Sassoon, London, to create fresh, modern looks designed especially for you.
Although John is mainly located between Perth in Scotland and London, he can be seen performing in more than 25 countries around the globe. He has appeared on the cover of leading industry magazine Hairdresser’s Journal, Elle Magazine, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, American Stylist, as well as in Pelequerias and Estetica.
John was also selected to tend the hair of celebrities such as Beyonce, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Sean Paul, Robbie Williams and other music superstars at the MTV Europe Music Awards (established in 1994 by MTV Europe).
John is a member of the British Fellowship of Performing Hair Artists. This fellowship is the most exclusive group of hairdressers in Europe and membership is by invitation only. He has appeared on various television channels in the U.K., as well as on numerous programmes throughout Europe.
When not working in the salon or platform, John is an avid soccer fan and relaxes by indulging his love of cooking.
